Learning and practicing new skills.

Students in grades 5-12 from across the Kentucky-Tennessee Conference came together for the 25th Annual Acrofest at Highland Academy, with the Southern Adventist University Gym- Masters serving as the clinicians for the weekend on January 30, 2020. During the three-day clinic, participants had the opportunity to work on their tumbling skills; work together as a team to create pyramids and other formations; participate in athletic competitions; be inspired by singing and worship talks; and perform, watch, and cheer in Saturday night’s Acrofest Show.

The theme for this year was “Rock Solid.” The Sabbath worship service included the Gym-Masters acting out a dramatization of one of their former teammates, Daphne Knecht. They portrayed her experience with the team, battle with cancer, family’s struggles, death, the legacy she left behind, and how she never let go of Jesus even through her darkest hours. Students were encouraged to build a rock solid faith on Jesus which cannot be shaken.

The Acrofest Show was the culminating event that began with each school walking out as a team. Then the participants performed the pyramids and routines they created during the clinic. Next, the students participated in competitions, including headstands, handstands, hand-to-hands, and butterflies. They also showed off their tumbling skills with cartwheels, round-offs, back handsprings, and flips. To wrap up the show, the elementary and academy teams from various schools performed their routines followed by an amazing Gym-Masters performance. The students returned home with new skills, confidence, strengthened friendships, great memories, inspiration to continue their journey in gymnastics, and most importantly, a rock solid faith in Jesus.
