Couples Retool, Renew at Marriage Retreat

By Beverly Cross

Southeastern couples gather and smile for healthy marriages. More than 50 couples went to Daytona Beach to get away, and enrich and grow their marriages.

The Southeastern Conference couples retreat weekend was held October 6-8, 2017, at The Shores Resort and Spa in Daytona Beach, Fla. The theme was “Building Healthy Families.” It was a weekend for romance, relaxation, renewal, and revival.

After a warm welcome from Mark Brown, Ph.D., director of family life ministries for the Southeastern Conference, Dolphy Cross, Ph.D., gave the opening seminar for the evening, “It’s All About Relationship.” The presentation was informative, but also interactive. In it he spoke about marital intimacy as God’s design, as a powerful emotional, physical, and spiritual force for bonding. While that power is extremely destructive when used the wrong way, it is a valuable resource when lovingly exercised within marriage. Attendees were encouraged to welcome excitement in their marriages, and to not be afraid to “communicate, communicate, communicate.”

The keynote presenters for the weekend were Nevilon and Rosa Meadows, who spoke about the power of intimacy, honesty, diclosure, and togetherness. The Meadows also spent significant time in personal counseling with several of the couples who attended the retreat. Couples were also given time for relaxation and walks on the beach. One couple commented that though their schedule is very busy, they were so glad that they came. The couples look forward to more times to get together to invest in their marriages.
