Bible Bowl is a unique ministry. The ministry can summarize its mission as follows: To awaken the interest of the young people within our Church and strengthen their devotional life! Bible Bowl coordinator Lornette Stokes says her 21 years in the ministry have been both challenging and rewarding, but nothing compares to seeing the young and old compete against each other by answering questions from the Bible.

The Black Adventist Youth Directors’ Association (BAYDA) Bible Bowl Nationals took place in Albany, N.Y., October 27-28, 2017. Excitement was in the air, and the teams were anxious to get started. Teams gathered in corners or sat in chairs going over their material, while also listening for when their team would be called up to play. South Central was involved in full force. There were five teams competing from all age categories. The games began on Friday evening, with three teams winning their first game. They claimed Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens and empowers me,” focused on the task at hand, and did their very best. They gave the other teams a challenge, and held on as best they could. Although they did not place this year, they left with a determination to go back next year stronger and wiser. I First Church in Huntsville, Ala., and Oakwood University are congratulated for representing South Central well at the BAYDA Bible Bowl National Championships.

Bible Bowl is a great way for youth to learn what Jesus has to say, and retain that information not only for the competition, but for the rest of their lives. The books used and ages represented were Mark, Daniel — ages 6-9; Mark, Daniel, Malachi, 1 Peter, 2 Peter — ages 10-15; Mark, Daniel, Malachi, 1 Peter, 2 Peter, Romans — ages 16-22; Mark, Daniel, Malachi, 1 Peter, 2 Peter, Romans, Numbers — ages 23-35; Mark, Daniel, Malachi, 1 Peter, 2 Peter, Romans, Numbers, Song of Solomon — ages 36 and up.

Your church is invited to join a team next year. Contact Lornette (Meecy) Stokes at 901-267-9991 or LStokes621@gmail.com for information regarding Bible Bowl.
