Members of the Woodbury, Tenn., Church conducted a NEWSTART Health Expo on Friday, September 29, 2023. This event marked the third of its kind organized by the church in the current year. The September 29 event was exclusively for Murfreesboro City employees.

Visitors to the booth gained valuable insights into the eight NEWSTART Health principles, which include nutrition, exercise, water, sunshine, temperance, air, rest, and trust in God. Following their introduction to these principles, attendees were encouraged to take part in a personal health assessment, encompassing checks for blood pressure, lung capacity, exercise heart rate, glucose screenings, and health age.

A dedicated team of 19 volunteers played a crucial role in making this event a success. Celine Kropf, responsible for administering weight and BMI assessments, expressed her appreciation for being part of the fair.

“I believe this might have been the best expo yet,” said Kropf. “I found the location highly favorable!”

Kathleen Sterling, who conducted approximately 100 blood pressure screenings, identified numerous individuals with hypertension.

“Perhaps [this experience] was providential,” said Sterling. “A few individuals had dangerously high blood pressure and were strongly advised to seek urgent care. At least three people promptly followed that advice. I pray they are well and have received appropriate treatment.”

The booth attracted more than 125 visitors, with five individuals expressing interest in Bible studies. There was also a request to assist the Murfreesboro Water Department in continuing NEWSTART Health education for their employees.

Volunteers also distributed free water bottles and more than 50 water containers for drinking. Additionally, two lucky attendees received a health and fitness basket, while another enjoyed a 30-minute massage from Body Renew Massage Therapy.

Becki Louden noted the significant teamwork that went into organizing the event and shared her most noteworthy encounter.

“My most notable encounter was with a woman of my age and height who recently underwent surgery and gained weight due to her inability to exercise,” said Louden. “I exchanged contact information with her, and we plan to go for walks together, supporting each other in our journeys toward health and fitness.”
