The Troublesome Twelve (Hours)

By Julianna Mejia

On our trip to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, we had a lot of ups and downs. This is one of the major bumps that lasted 12 hours.

It was a hot and 6:00 and we were told we would leave at 5:30. We were still waiting for our directors so we could leave. It was getting later and later. Finally they came, we prayed and, “hit the road”.

All was well until… the bus we were riding in broke down. We pulled over onto the side of the highway and the staff checked it out. They didn’t know what was wrong. So, we took the nearest exit.

We pulled into a Shell gas station and called a 24 hour mechanic to see what was wrong. At 10:00 one of our directors went to the McDonalds to ask if we could take refuge there. They said yes. We all came in and bought foods and drinks. We continued our conversations and called our parents. We then had to leave at 11:00 because McDonalds was closing.

We walked back to the Shell and waited for the news from the mechanic. We then found out our turbo broke so we couldn’t go at high speeds. Luckily, God provided and we stayed at the Jacksonville church. In the morning the staff rented 4 minivans. We left at 9:00 and our grand adventure was back on.
