Retirees and children of pastors gathered for a day of food and fellowship at the Legacy Ministries picnic.

The South Atlantic Conference marked a significant milestone with the establishment of Legacy Ministries. This initiative officially launched on May 31, 2023, under the leadership of Everton E. Ennis, D.Min., South Atlantic Conference general vice president. Legacy Ministries is dedicated to supporting retired denominational workers, surviving spouses of deceased employees, and pastors’ children residing in the South Atlantic territory.

Legacy Ministries hosted its inaugural picnic on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Sweetwater Creek State Park in Lithia Springs, Ga. The event brought together retirees, families, and Conference leaders for a day of fellowship, reflection, and celebration.

The attendees enjoyed a relaxed atmosphere filled with laughter, gratitude, and shared memories. Testimonies highlighted the impact of years of faithful service, while stories from decades past sparked smiles and recollections among guests.

Participants also enjoyed a variety of food and outdoor activities that fostered connection and camaraderie. Many expressed appreciation for the Conference’s ongoing commitment to honoring those who have dedicated their lives to ministry and service.

Ennis described the gathering as a “celebration of legacy and love,” emphasizing the importance of recognizing and supporting those who have paved the way for future generations of workers.

The success of the first Legacy Ministries Picnic underscored the Conference’s mission to build community among its members, and reaffirm its care for those who have contributed to ministry through the years.

The South Atlantic Conference plans to continue developing programs through Legacy Ministries that promote fellowship, encouragement, and support for retired workers and their families.
