Fall rain and sunshine marked the fourth-annual Gospel Sing at the Crawfordville Church on September 27, 2025. Themed “He Keeps Me Singing,” the event drew members from 10 churches across Northwest Florida and South Georgia for an evening of Christian fellowship through music.
The ministry began four years ago when Dorothy Altrogge and Linda Peters of the Crawfordville Church felt impressed to encourage greater participation in congregational music. The word quickly spread, and they welcomed anyone who shared a love for Jesus and music. This year’s program included participants and attendees from several area churches, including Baptist, Methodist, Pentecostal, and Christian Missionary Alliance congregations.
A key philosophy of the event is the idea that anyone can participate. The small sanctuary filled quickly with the sounds of harp, guitars, violins, keyboards, and other instruments. The joy of singing together connected people from various churches, languages, and cultural backgrounds, from ages 5 to 90. Soul, bluegrass, and Hispanic music styles blended with gospel in praise to the Lord. Sammy Barfield, from the Christian Worship Center, shared his excitement during the evening, saying, “I feel Jesus is in this house tonight!”
Altrogge and Peters designed the overall program, while Crawfordville members assisted by operating sound, greeting guests, and coordinating a fellowship meal. Planning begins months in advance as teams select music, arrange the order of service, and support participants during rehearsal. Though preparation can be demanding, organizers expressed that the joy of united voices praising God makes every effort worthwhile.
