Young families found encouragement, education, and practical support during a Community Baby Shower hosted by the Lauderhill, Fla., Church in partnership with local organizations and civic leaders.
Organized by the church’s Women’s Ministries and Family Life Ministries Departments, the event welcomed 29 expectant and recent mothers and their families. The program was designed not only to celebrate the arrival of new babies, but also to equip parents with valuable information and resources to help them care for their growing families.
Special guests included the mayor of the City of Lauderhill, Denise Grant, who greeted and encouraged the attending mothers, and Florida State Representative Daryl Campbell, who joined Garry Gordon, Lauderhill pastor, and event coordinator Alecia Brown in supporting the initiative.
Throughout the afternoon, participants enjoyed giveaways, refreshments, educational presentations, games, activities for siblings, and opportunities to connect with community organizations dedicated to family wellness. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and filled with joy as volunteers and community partners worked together to serve families.
Attendees also benefited from presentations by community professionals. Juan Velez, community paramedic captain for the City of Lauderhill, taught CPR training and important lifesaving skills. Lactation specialist Shana Quarrie shared practical guidance and encouragement for nursing mothers, while Monique Kerr coordinated games and activities that added fun and engagement throughout the event.
Several organizations collaborated to make the event possible, including the City of Lauderhill, Broward Health, Broward Healthy Start Coalition, Bluebird Kids Health, UnmuteYourself.org, MCNA Dental, Florida Health WIC Florida, and the Lauderhill Community Child Care Center, a ministry of the Lauderhill Church.
Additional support came through generous donations from the Fort Lauderdale/Broward Diaper Bank, Joy’s Roti, Kiwanis of Lauderhill, Costco, and M. Ziadeh. Their contributions helped provide resources and gifts that were greatly appreciated by the participating families.
The Community Baby Shower demonstrated how churches can minister to the practical needs of their communities while building meaningful relationships. By supporting parents, encouraging healthy families, and creating opportunities for connection, the Lauderhill Church reflected Christ’s love. Through acts of service like these, the church continues to be a blessing to its community and a reflection of Jesus’ compassion and care for families.
