The Last Hoorah

By Abby Vega

It all started with disappointment, and has not ended yet, but has, so far, been continued with so much enjoyment. My small club from Wildwood, Georgia, has not been together for a long time and we were really looking forward to coming to Oshkosh. We are getting older and some of us are going off to boarding school and college, so we really wanted to be able to come here together as a club. Unfortunately, the board did not allow us to come for some reason. So, after a period of great disappointment, we put the desire to go behind us.

My best friend and I ended up going to a 5 week long summer camp, YFJ, and while we were there two of the other kids and I started to talk about Oshkosh. They were going, so I started to ask around about extra ticket, since tickets were already sold out by that time. I called my mom to talk about it and expressed my desire to come. She found someone who had 5 extra tickets and we made it final, we were coming! Week got back home from summer camp just one week before Oshkosh and started to prepare. We hit the road around 4am on Tuesday morning and drove for 15 hours. We got here just in time for the first meeting. It has been a great first experience so far, collecting pins and meeting new people! It will definitely be one that I will never forget.
