Camp Alamisco Hosts Gulf States Outdoor School: “God’s Plan, Not Mine”

communication team

Gulf States Outdoor School attendees

Camp Alamisco welcomed students from across the Gulf States Conference Outdoor School, April 6-10, 2026, bringing together 10 schools and approximately 60 students in grades 6-8 for a week of immersive learning and spiritual growth.

Centered on the theme “God’s Plan, Not Mine,” students explored the story of Joseph while engaging in a variety of outdoor and academic activities. Each morning, students participated in choir or drama, culminating in a performance at the end of the week. In the afternoons, they rotated through hands-on classes, including canoeing, science, art, and outdoor skills. Students also took part in a U.S. history fair, spelling bee, team-building events, and an academic bowl, adding a collaborative element to the week.

Worship was a key part of each day, with morning and evening chapel services providing opportunities for reflection, praise, and spiritual connection. Evening programs, including campfires, boat rides, and group activities, helped build friendships and create lasting memories.

Students lived and learned alongside peers from other schools, fostering a strong sense of community, while developing responsibility through shared duties and group participation. The combination of outdoor education, structured activities, and spiritual emphasis made the experience both meaningful and memorable.

As the week came to a close, students left Camp Alamisco not only with new skills and friendships, but with a deeper understanding of how God works through every part of their lives.
