The message “Two are better than one,” found in Ecclesiastes 4:9, became a lived experience last September when the Florida and Southeastern conferences partnered for the annual Fit Together Health and Fitness Weekend at Camp Kulaqua in High Springs, Florida.
The weekend was hosted by Les McCoy, publishing and health ministries director for Florida Conference, and featured
Jennifer Sankey Battles, M.D., of Southeastern Conference, as keynote speaker.
The event opened with Battles’ message, “A Mission-minded Workout.” Steve Wickham and Karen Wickham of Lifestyle Makeovers followed with a seminar on reversing disease. Additional presentations covered a variety of topics, including understanding dementia, intermittent fasting, plant-based cooking, grace for grief, self-massage skills, and restore stretching.
Lorraine Ihrig noted she looks forward to the event every year. “I like to learn more about taking care of my health,” she said. “I love being active and being in nature, and this is the perfect place. The worship and messages bring it all together, physical, mental, and spiritual health.”
Participants also engaged in numerous activities focused on health and fitness, including a 5K run benefiting Camp Kulaqua’s Wildlife Sanctuary, a volleyball tournament, a CrossFit boot camp, water aerobics, canoeing, pickleball, and hiking. Throughout the weekend, attendees were encouraged to dedicate every aspect of their lives, including their health, to Jesus.
The health ministries team is already planning the next Fit Together, scheduled for September 11-13, 2026, again at Camp Kulaqua.
