Montgomery First Holds Impactful Evangelistic Series: “System for Survival”

communication team

Ron C. Smith, D.Min., Ph.D., president of the Southern Union Conference, led the "System for Survival" series.

With the theme “System for Survival,” the Southern Union Conference hosted a powerful three-week-long evangelistic series at Montgomery First Church in Montgomery, Ala., from February 28 to March 21, 2026. The event brought together community members from across the southern region, creating a space for spiritual renewal, biblical learning, and life-changing decisions.

Led by Ron C. Smith, D.Min., Ph.D., president of the Southern Union, the series focused on practical and spiritual principles for navigating life through a Christ-centered foundation. Night after night attendees filled the sanctuary, with total attendance surpassing 1,000 individuals over the course of the meetings.

Smith’s messages emphasized hope, resilience, and the importance of grounding one’s life in Scripture. His clear and compelling presentations resonated deeply, leading many to respond to the call for a closer walk with God. As a result, 141 individuals made their decision to be baptized, marking a significant spiritual shift for people who did not know the Word of Christ, and for those in the surrounding community.

In addition to the nightly messages, the series encouraged continued spiritual growth through Bible study. Approximately 800 attendees enrolled in ongoing Bible study programs, demonstrating a strong desire to deepen their understanding of God’s Word beyond the event itself.

One of the most memorable moments of the series came in a unique and heartfelt ceremony, a wedding officiated in the church’s baptismal pool. This powerful symbol of commitment and new beginnings reflected the broader impact of the meetings, where lives were being transformed both spiritually and relationally.

Throughout the month, members of Montgomery First Church, along with Dwayne Campbell, Montgomery First lead pastor, worked tirelessly to support the event, welcoming guests, coordinating logistics, and fostering an atmosphere of fellowship. Their dedication played a vital role in the success of the series and in creating a warm, inviting environment for all who attended.

As the System for Survival series concluded, the impact remained evident in the people changed and commitments renewed. The event stands as a testament to the power of evangelism and the continued mission of sharing the Gospel throughout Gulf States and beyond.
