The South Central Conference is pleased to welcome Avrey Anderson as its new communications director. Anderson brings a unique blend of ministry experience, technical skill, creative vision, and a deep commitment to using communication as a tool for mission.
Anderson follows Roger R. Wade, pastor, who has transitioned to serve as the pastor of Magazine Street Church in Louisville, Ky. South Central is grateful for Wade’s service, and prays God’s continued blessing over him as he begins this new chapter of ministry.
Born in Toronto, Canada, Anderson describes himself as both technical and creative. He is passionate about technology and ministry, especially the ways media and innovation can help advance the mission of the Adventist Church. Whether through video, photography, design, social media, websites, or printed media, Anderson sees communication as more than the sharing of information. He sees it telling meaningful stories, connecting people to ministry, and making the work of the Church more visible.
Before joining South Central Conference, Anderson served in youth ministry as associate youth director for the Allegheny East Conference. That experience helped shape his understanding of people, culture, creativity, and the importance of communicating clearly across generations. His heart for ministry, paired with his knowledge of media and technology, gives him a strong foundation for serving churches, schools, pastors, leaders, and members throughout the South Central territory.
Anderson said he believes God led him to South Central Conference. While serving in youth ministry, the opportunity became available, and he prayed for God to work everything according to His will. Looking back, he sees the journey as a testimony, and looks forward to sharing more of that story in the future.
As communications director, Anderson wants South Central members and churches to expect professionalism, excellence, and a strong commitment to visibility. One of his goals is to help churches become more visible within their local communities by sharing stories that need to be heard, and by helping the Conference’s message reach people across its geographic region. He plans to support this work through video, photography, articles, social media, and the South Central website.
Anderson is also passionate about helping churches that may be struggling to connect with their communities. He believes the Communications Department can assist through planning, visioning, strategy, design, and implementation. In his view, making a meaningful community impact does not have to be overwhelming. With intentional planning, consistent effort, and God’s guidance, churches can strengthen their presence and help attract people to the house of God.
Storytelling is central to Anderson’s passion for communication. He believes God has placed him in this role to use his creativity, technical abilities, and love for meaningful media experiences to share the everlasting Gospel through visual, digital, and printed platforms. He also notes that his wife, Christal, who is a writer, has helped inspire his appreciation for creativity and storytelling. The Andersons are celebrating 15 years of marriage this year, and they have three children.
Outside of work, Anderson enjoys sports, especially basketball, reading, watching stories unfold through film and media, researching new technology, and spending time with his family. He also enjoys music, plays several instruments, and hopes to learn the Hammond organ.
As he begins his new assignment, Anderson’s first goal is to successfully navigate Camp Meeting season while learning, growing, pacing himself, and appreciating the small wins along the way. Above all, he says his ultimate goal is to make God proud through the work he does.
