When Small Voices Lead Big Faith: How an Early Childhood Center Became a Mission Field

lori thieme, m.ed.

The Early Childhood Education (ECE) Center at Meadows Academy offers the warm classrooms, caring teachers, and age-appropriate learning families expect. Yet, its purpose goes deeper. Faith is woven naturally into each day through prayer, chapel, songs, and the steady example of adults who love and serve the children.

Chandrani Sirigampola, the Center’s spiritual director and liaison between the church and the ECE program, helps keep that purpose at the Center. Working with director Dimarys Cardero, teachers, families, and church leaders, she leads chapel for every age group, from infants learning the rhythms of worship to 4-year-olds who pray with remarkable confidence.

Brian Cassell, pastor, recently shared how one child’s faith followed the child home. The 4-year-old began asking the family to worship and pray together, something they had not practiced before. They listened. Their child led with songs, prayers, and the kind of trust that does not make faith complicated.

At the Christmas program in December 2025, the family approached Cassell. They wanted to learn more about the Bible and the Church, and they planned to enroll their child at Forest Lake Education Center for next year. What began with a small voice in a classroom had opened a door for an entire family.

That is the quiet strength of early childhood ministry. A prayer before snack, a chapel song carried home, or a child’s honest question can become a first step toward Christ. The work may look ordinary, but God often uses ordinary moments to plant lasting seeds.

Meadows Academy’s recent Adventist Accreditation affirmed the Center’s strong communication with parents and church leadership. That trust matters. Families come to see the Center not only as a place for learning and care, but also as a community where their children are known and spiritually nurtured.

Many early childhood centers sit on church campuses. With prayer and intention, those classrooms can become one of the church’s most meaningful mission fields. Sometimes ministry sounds like a sermon. Sometimes it sounds like a 4-year-old whispering a prayer and inviting everyone else to join in.
