SHINE, “Sharing His Incredible News Everywhere,” fittingly describes the DeBary-Orange City Church evangelism team. Members spanning an age range of 80 years spread cheer and the love of Christ in a variety of ways with those who need to know Him and those who need a boost in their walk with Him.

The SHINE team meets regularly to plan upcoming events, which differ from month to month. A typical outreach Sabbath begins with team members dividing into groups for a specific purpose. One group might visit homes door to door, inviting residents to cooking classes or a prophecy seminar, or praying with those desiring prayer. Another group may sing at a nursing home or hospital. Occasionally, a group will stay at the church to prepare gift bags, write letters to prisoners, or assemble “Welcome to Our Church” packets for new visitors.

But, always — always — a very special group remains at the church the entire time teams are in the field. This group prays specifically for safety, protection, and wisdom for the team members as well as those receiving a visit. Every house, business, and street is petitioned for angelic presence beforehand, so that contacts will be receptive to the blessings that may be theirs.

The SHINE team is growing in numbers and in creative ways to draw souls to Christ. DeLand Neighborhood Center, which provides food for the hungry and shelter and life-guidance instruction for the homeless through their ongoing Bridge program, is benefitted by SHINE members preparing and serving a meal to the Center’s residents two Sundays a month. At the DeLand Flea Market, free literature is provided by a dedicated SHINE team member. Matthew 5:16 is literally being carried out via SHINE volunteers who are living the words, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in Heaven.”
